Florida COVID Roadtrip

The pandemic year had nowhere to put my travel energy, so it became a long Florida roadtrip. Wilson, NC overnight, then Miami, Daytona, Orlando, and Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay leg included Shell Key bioluminescent kayaking — paddling through black water that lights up wherever the paddle hits. Living things you can see only in the dark.

Universal Orlando was nearly empty in December 2020. So was everywhere else. It was a strange way to see Florida — the parks and the beaches and the highways all running on a quarter staffing, the music too loud for the crowds.
